Project Description: Citizen Wallet offers communities and events the Web3 tools they need to easily launch, use and manage community tokens using a mobile app and NFC wallets. We develop real-world projects that use web3 infrastructure to support the common good.
Public Repository:
Budget Breakdown
Milestone 1: $15k - Making the launch of a token and community completely self-service
- Expected Outcome: New communities will be able to easily launch and manage new community tokens that are integrated into the Citizen Wallet app.
Milestone 2: $20k - Launch key plugins for our existing communities
We plan to focus on the following features for the wallet application:
-
A community governance plugin: let communities integrate voting into their token economy.
- NFC card linking: easily link our NFC wallet solution to your mobile wallet. -
Expected Outcome:
Voting functionality should be deployed in the Breadchain community. NFC card linking will be deployed in the Brussels Pay community to let merchants easily accept payment in stablecoins.
Funding Requested: 35k$ /10ETH
Plans should you fall below, reach or exceed funding goals:
The Citizen Wallet team would reduce the development capacity according to the available funds which would slow down or roadmap development
Impact Measurement and Reporting
Inputs > Activities > Outputs > Outcomes > Long Term Impact
Short-term Outcomes (0-3 months):
The immediate results we expect from the project include:
- Implementation of a governance plugin allowing communities to integrate voting mechanisms
- Successful deployment of NFC card linking feature for seamless mobile wallet integration
- Integration of these features in at least two active communities (Breadchain and Brussels Pay)
Mid-term Outcomes (3-6+ months):
The anticipated outcomes from our project include:
- Growing our monthly active user base by 50% through improved onboarding and user experience
- Increasing community engagement with a target of 30% of users participating in governance decisions in Breadchain.
- Expanding merchant adoption in the Brussels Pay network to 50+ local businesses
- Building a developer community with 5+ external contributors to our open-source repositories
- Increased adoption metrics with a target of onboarding 3-5 new communities within 6 months
- Complete self-service token launch functionality enabling new communities to create and manage their tokens independently
Long-term Impact (5+ years):
Our long-term vision includes:
- Becoming the standard infrastructure for community token economies, serving thousands of active communities globally
- Creating a sustainable ecosystem where communities can thrive independently through self-governed token economies
- Establishing a robust network of merchants and businesses accepting community tokens through our NFC solution
- Developing an inclusive financial system that bridges traditional and web3 economies at the local level
- Building a decentralized governance framework that enables true community ownership and decision-making
Outcomes Measurement:
We will track and measure project outcomes through both quantitative and qualitative metrics:
Quantitative Metrics
- Monthly Active Users (MAU) tracking through our analytics dashboard
- Transaction volume and frequency monitored via live.citizenwallet.xyz
- Number of new communities onboarded per quarter
- Merchant adoption rates in participating networks
- Governance participation rates within communities
Qualitative Measurements
- Regular user satisfaction surveys distributed to community members
- Structured interviews with community leaders and merchants
- Case studies documenting implementation success stories
- Feedback collection through community forums and social channels
Measurement Tools
- Survey Tools: Typeform for user feedback collection
- Community Forum: Discord for qualitative feedback gathering
- Transaction Monitor: Real-time transaction tracking system
Interim Reporting
Regular Updates:
We plan to submit quarterly updates on the platform.
Milestone Verification:
As the milestones have clear deliverables they can be verified publicly by any app user. The code of the developed features will be publicly available on GitHub and we plan to report on the deliverables on Karma GAP.
Sustainability Plan
Our sustainability strategy is built on multiple revenue streams and funding sources:
- Service Fees: Implementation of a sustainable fee structure for advanced features and scalable community management tools
- CTZN Token Utility: Revenue generated through the utility token usage for platform services and transaction fee coverage
- Grants and Partnerships: Continuous engagement with Web3 ecosystem grants and strategic partnerships with aligned organizations
- Community Support: Building a strong community of developers and users who contribute to the project’s growth and maintenance
- Consulting Services: Offering specialized implementation and customization services for large-scale community deployments
Our open-source nature ensures transparency while these revenue streams support ongoing development and maintenance. The combination of community-driven development and sustainable income sources creates a resilient model for long-term project viability.

Advancing Values of Freedom and Privacy
Citizen Wallet empowers communities with self-sovereign control over their token economies, allowing them to operate independently of traditional financial systems. Our platform implements strong privacy measures by default, ensuring user data remains protected and under their control. We utilize open-source development practices, making our code transparent and auditable by anyone. The platform enables direct peer-to-peer transactions without intermediaries, reducing dependency on centralized payment systems. Communities can customize their token parameters and governance rules, promoting financial autonomy and democratic decision-making. Our NFC wallet solution provides privacy-preserving physical payments without requiring personal data exposure. We maintain strict data minimization principles, collecting only essential information for platform functionality. The system architecture is designed to prevent tracking and profiling of user transactions beyond what’s necessary for blockchain validation. User funds remain in their complete control through non-custodial wallets, ensuring financial sovereignty. By building on decentralized infrastructure, we ensure that no single entity can control or shut down community economies.
Supporting Decentralization
Citizen Wallet actively supports decentralization through several key approaches:
- Community-owned infrastructure: Each community maintains complete control over their token economy without relying on central authorities
- Non-custodial architecture: Users maintain full ownership of their funds through self-custody wallets
- Open-source development: All code is publicly available and can be independently verified or forked
- Permissionless systems: Anyone can create and manage their own community tokens without requiring approval
- Distributed governance: Communities can implement their own governance rules and decision-making processes
- Peer-to-peer transactions: Direct user-to-user transfers without intermediaries
By building on these principles, Citizen Wallet ensures that power and control remain distributed among community members rather than concentrated in central entities.
