Gravity DAO is where individuals and communities go to find support and guidance to build trust, better communication, resolve conflicts, and improve the well-being of the whole and its members.

Budget Breakdown

Our organization has a monthly operational budget of 8.000 USD, which sustains the creation of free quality transdisciplinary content on social sciences, facilitation of continued education, development of standards, and pioneering solutions to contribute to solving common problems in online communities.

Thanks to the quality of our content and the success of our services, we have been a sustainable project for over 4 years now. We have trained and provided education in many communities, with great results in the creation of a strong relational fabric in those groups.

Milestone 1:
We are looking for 3 ETH to support the development of our upcoming online course on leadership.

  • Expected Outcome:
    We noticed that there is a huge need for training in Web3-focused leadership. Technological leaders need to be integral to steward innovation, and being the primary modeler of educational change. Leadership is needed to create trust, transform conflict, grow from the energy inside motion, balance polarities, and evolve from dialogue.

Funding Requested: 3 ETH

Plans should you fall below, reach or exceed funding goals:

If we fall short of our expected threshold, we will continue working towards launching this course with our present treasury. If we exceed the funding goals, we will be able to grow our team to be more effective in ops and content creation. We aspire to launch a third course at the end 2025, completing our initial human development education path in Web3.

From Octant, we are looking for support for our sustained operations, believing that the work we are doing for the public good is highly valuable for the web3 space.

Impact Measurement and Reporting

We give input to communities and individuals by facilitating educational activities and practices. The output of our efforts is traduced in antifragile systems that evolve by overcoming obstacles. This ultimately contributes to the capacity to coordinate nonviolently as humans and solve shared worldwide challenges.

Short-term Outcomes (0-3 months):

In the following three months, we aspire to share our new branding and narrative, which includes leadership as the third principle that connects conflict management and trust creation.
We are also looking forward to attending DEVCON VII in Thailand, where our team will meet for the first time IRL after working together for years. During our presence in Devcon, we plan to announce our leadership training, which should be finished by the end of 2024 and launched with a first live cohort in Q1 of 2025.

Develop free content on trust creation, conflict management, and leadership, while facilitating continued education for our network of partner communities, and structuring our second online course.

Mid-term Outcomes (3-6+ months):

After launching our course on leadership, Gravity DAO would be at 2/3 of our goal of developing our integral education path for human development in web3. After the first live cohort of this new training, we will promote the content and continued education, before starting the curation phase of our third training, planned for the end of 2025.

Long-term Impact (5+ years):

  • We wish to set standards for human development in web3 to promote a sustainable culture of nonviolence and healthy coordination.

Outcomes Measurement:

  • We plan to have at least 50 participants in our Leadership training, with at least 10 new certified leaders that attend 77% of the sessions. We measure participation with NTFs, and we’ll be hosting the course in our page https://gravitydao.org/online-courses/

Interim Reporting

Regular Updates:

  • Since we are a small team focused on creating content, sometimes it is hard to present monthly updates in our public profiles and accountability mechanisms. That is we propose to give updates quarterly, seeming a good cadence for us to have time to advance and show real progress.

Milestone Verification:

  • We haven’t created a profile in https://gap.karmahq.xyz/ because we just found out of this tool recently. Once we have created this profile, I will be happy to add it to this thread. This will be done after posting since we are close to the Epoch 5 application deadline.

Sustainability Plan

Our online content is free, but we offer live continued education and consultancy, from where we get strategic partnerships and collaborate with many organizations. One of the communities we are happily collaborating with is Optimism, which has been very giving by retroactively recognizing the impact we are creating for the public good.

Case Studies and Testimonials

Gathering Feedback:

  • We plan to record our live sessions and share spaces for recorded testimonials, surveys, and feedback loops to identify opportunities for improvement.

Showcasing Success:

  • Besides the launch and polish of the leadership training, we will continue to offer our continued education through social media, blog posts, participation in conferences, academic research, and collaboration with multiple communities.

Advancing Values of Freedom and Privacy

Gravity DAO does not generate plutocracy or centralization of power, as we act only as facilitators, and our actions are not meant to accumulate power or influence on the outcomes of the cases we participate in.

Supporting Decentralization

Yes. Our conflict management cycle for DAOs promotes decentralization, as we don’t get involved in the outcomes of the disputes, and we can mediate cases, but we prefer to facilitate support with education and training for the application of our processes, allowing conflict management to be done and accessed by any active member inside the community. We don’t solve disputes in a centralized way and we encourage solutions to emerge from the parties involved. We are also contributing to many web3 projects, supporting the cross-pollination of experiences and knowledge with DAO2DAO, and healthy standards.

** Juan Carlos Bell: Political Scientist, Mg.sc in Alternative Dispute Resolution. Before contributing to Web3 I worked at universities, facilitating coordination of academic programs. I was a Community Steward of the Token Engineering Commons when started incubating Gravity DAO. I also support on the Ethereum Colombia Community.

** Bianca: Psychologist, a researcher for Universidade da Brasilia, and Manager of coordination in Gravity DAO. Intrinsic interest in Mental health and ecosystem feedback loops

** Nikola: Development consultant. Expert in sales and Negotiation. Mediator and Community Lead in Giveth.

Transparency

We see ETH as a valuable asset over time. That is why if we get this funding from Octant, we might want to hold it, prioritizing using other tokens in our portfolio first to cover our operational costs.

Gravity applied to Octant epochs 1 & 2, but we haven’t been beneficiaries in the past. You can see our previous applications here:

For epoch 5 we chose to create a different thread since the previous one was oriented to project-specific funding (delivering a graviton training) and this one is for support for general operations.

Dear Octant community:

Thanks to everyone who made it possible for our project to participate and raise funds during epoch 5. We are doing our best to create a long-lasting positive impact for the public good, and that is why we would like to renew our participation in Epoch 6.

Carrying the flag of human development in a technological and financial industry like web3 is hard. However, we are confident that our work is needed and relevant because the challenges we face as humankind go beyond economic problems, and to overcome them, we need to give sense to our human experience and solve the existential crisis we are involved in.

Gravity DAO is helping to create a culture of collaboration and brotherhood where cutting-edge tools are used to enrich life.

Short-term Update (from epoch 5 to epoch 6)

  • Total Funds Received (Previous Round): In epoch 5 we raised 1.273 ETH.

  • Total Funds Requested:: We requested 3 ETH in our application for epoch 5.

  • Funds Spent: We haven’t spent any of the ETH raised from Octant epoch 5. We have spent tokens from other funding sources (mostly OP) to cover our operational costs, and we aspire to hold ETH to extend the runway of our project thinking of it as a valuable asset over time.

  • Remaining Balance: $ / 1.273 ETH from epoch 5 + 0.3 ETH from past donations stored in this gnosis-safe (we use this same multisign address in Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum & gnosis chain)

Plans for Next Epoch

For the next epoch, we plan to coordinate with the facilitators of our leadership training to deliver, upload, and test the content in our educational platform. We want to standardize every lesson of our new course to match a high-quality and evergreen educational experience.

Besides that, we plan to start implementing the new organizational strategy we’ve been working on to improve our internal structure. With this, we want to grow the number of participants and contributors and formalize processes.

  • Updated Milestone 1:

After Epoch 5, our team members received support from our DAO’s treasury to participate in Devcon 7, in Bangkok, Thailand. It was our first IRL meeting, and it was very productive and impactful for our project and its members. We facilitated several educational activities and practices in the Devcon main venue and different side events, like Funding the Commons, and the Regen hub.

  • Description:

We intend to continue serving the public good with our work, and we noticed that to better serve others sustainably we needed to improve our internal structure, so for 2025 we will implement a new organizational plan, with a balanced scorecard and defined processes for the sustainable growth of our community. This will happen in parallel with the launch of our second online course.

  • Expected Immediate Outcome:

We have been working on creating the backbone of our leadership training and our new organization strategy, and we expect the immediate outcome to be:

  • Deliver, upload, and test the content of the leadership training. We are looking for communities interested in participating in the first cohort of this coming new course.
  • Start implementing the new strategy, with more formalized processes, more contribution paths, and clear governance mechanisms.
  • Continue working on our graphic rebranding: We want to embrace a new logo and update our website to market ourselves better and make it easier to interact with us
  • Funding Needed: $ / We would need 6 ETH to implement both sides of our plan.

On one side, pay for the facilitation and coordination of the training, for the creation of the content that will be uploaded to our platform, and on the other side, implement the new strategy and branding to make space for growing the number of contributors in our DAO, supporting our actual contributors, increasing our capacity to create impact, and distributing loads in the group.
