Project Description and why it’s classified as a Public Good:
[GoodDollar] is a 600k+ person digital non-profit universal basic income protocol, that delivers free money as a public good, and provide fundamental payment infrastructure that others can build on top of. Originally announced in 2019 and launched in 2020, GoodDollar aims to create a simple, easy approach to distribute digital UBI to any real person with a cell phone - no tech or crypto knowledge is required. GoodDollar has the mission of getting money to where it is needed most - low-income populations in underdeveloped economies (45% of our 600,000 users come from households living on less than $13/day). Today, GoodDollar has deliverd crypto UBI to more than 600,000 unique people from over 181 countries, and it is one of the most popular protocols every by transaction volume and the UBI dapp is one of the top 10 most used blockchain dapps in the world.

GoodDollar is a living example of blockchain as the superior infrastructure to enable powerful wealth distribution, spur monetary innovation, and encourage non-fiat based economies, and one where the UBI distributed reaches real people in need, every day, in a permissionless model. This makes it superior to existing aid programs or traditional philanthropies focused on basic income.

Main Project Funding Sources:

GoodDollar’s core developer is the Good Labs Foundation, and its operations are funded by corporate donations. The primary donor to Good Labs is the company eToro, which has funded the build of GoodDollar as its core corporate social responsibility project through funding open source innovation and tooling to improve financial education and access. eToro has funded the project’s operations since 2019, and has committed over $3 million dollars of operational funding to date. All software developed has and will continue to be open source.

  • GoodDollar is a non-profit protocol - this means 100% of all tokens minted go to support the UBI ecosystem. There is no founder allocation, no private sale. 100% mission-driven. All of this is reflected in the protocol overview.

  • Seeking project-specific funding or funding for general operations:

    • All funding will be used to support the development and deployment of segmentation capabilities that enable any agent to use the GoodDollar UBI protocol infrastructure to set up their own conditioned or unconditioned GoodDollar deployments. The initial build and pilot deployments have been focused on supporting climate missions, and enabling environmental stewards to receive automated, digital payments for verified environmental stewardship work deployed.       • 50% will be allocated to Good Labs to support operational funding to continue to build out the GoodDollar protocol, its applications, and support existing community operations in key emerging markets around the world.
      • 50% of all funding received will be distributed as GoodDollar UBI via the protocol to key segments, and given directly to users. The funds received from Octant will be used to fund additional UBI pools that support more G$ UBI going to the following segments of existing users.
        • environmental stewards - Conservation Basic Income for Indigenous People’s Doing climate stewardship - already live - in Brazil and Kenya.
        • women (children & families - when women do better, communities do better)
        • entrepreneurs - (Creating businesses built around G$ to encourage monetary innovation and community economies)
