Public HAUS:Decentralized Governance of the DAOhaus Protocol

Project Name

PublicHAUS: Accountability App

Project Description and Public Good Classification

Public HAUS is not just a protocol; it’s a transformative initiative that aims to redefine the very concept of public goods in our increasingly decentralized world. Built upon the robust foundation of the DAOhaus ecosystem, Public HAUS is more than a technological marvel—it’s a social contract, a new way of interacting with public goods and governance in the digital age.

Core Philosophies

Anchored in the principles of transparency, participatory engagement, and value co-creation, Public HAUS is designed to be a beacon for open-source projects and public utilities. The initiative is not just about creating a set of tools or a platform; it’s about crafting an ecosystem where the sum is greater than its parts. The ultimate goal is to progressively decentralize the DAOhaus protocol, thereby empowering individuals and communities to have greater agency in governance and decision-making.

The Accountability App: Bridging Gaps

The Accountability App serves as a linchpin in this ambitious project. It is meticulously designed to make intricate social commitments and concrete, measurable accountability metrics transparent. This dual-layered approach to visibility allows for a more comprehensive and nuanced evaluation process, ensuring that teams are fairly compensated upon the completion of their goals.

Seamless Integration for Greater Impact

The proposed course of action involves not just the development but the seamless integration of the Accountability App into the DAOhaus platform. This is a critical step in addressing the existing gaps in accountability and coordination within the ecosystem. It’s not just about adding a new feature; it’s about enhancing the entire governance framework to make it more robust, transparent, and equitable.

The Bigger Picture

The overarching aim is to further decentralize the DAOhaus protocol by creating systems that can operate in synergy with it. This is part of a grander vision where PublicHaus serves as a template for how public goods can be managed and governed in a decentralized context, setting a new standard for community-driven projects.

Main Project Funding Sources

  • CCO: DAOhaus has previously raised funding through a community contribution fundraise which enabled the development of DAOhaus V2.5 and V3.
  • Moloch DAO: DAOhaus received a grant from Moloch DAO which paid for audits on for V3.
  • The Graph: paid for subgraph services.

I would like to thank everyone who supported us in Epoch 1. Your support is truly appreciated. I want to personally thank @james and @mat7ias for all the help they have been and support they have provided.

I’d like to take this time to send along a little update on an upcoming event celebrating the long awaited release of our SDK Developer Docs. Which, are not only visually stunning, they work. Trust me, as a novice developer, I just went through the docs myself and summoned myself a custom DAO.

Don’t take my word for it, take a look: https://docs.daohaus.club/

To celebrate we’re holding the “DAOs Suck” Hackathon as a preamble to our second annual DAOcemeber event. Hopefully we can see some people from the community out at these events (which are online so travel is free!)

You can read more about it here: DAOhaus Season 3 DAOs Suck Mini Hack — DAOhaus

Again, appreciate the support from the Octant Community and team and look forward to a bright future!

Evolution of DAO Mechanics and Accountability: Leveraging the Octant Grant

Greetings Forum Members,

I’m thrilled to share an update on our progress, current activities, and the exciting future ahead, all made possible through the invaluable support from the Octant grant. This grant has been instrumental in empowering us to explore new dimensions of DAO mechanics and accountability within our community. Here’s a breakdown of our journey so far:

Past Achievements:

  • Cookie Jar Development: Through the Octant grant, we supplemented the funding for development of the Cookie Jar. This initiative was aimed at supporting the maintenance of open-source tools created by DAOhaus. The Cookie Jar operates as a treasury accessible to a specific allowlist of members. It functions akin to a slush fund, allowing permissionless use of funds with periodic limits on individual withdrawals. Crucially, every withdrawal (‘cookie’) is accompanied by a comprehensive description of its purpose. This streamlined process empowers members to act swiftly without protracted proposal procedures, while facilitating greater analysis and management of the allowlist for impactful decision-making.

Present Initiatives:

  • DAOcemberists Support: We recently provided retrospective support to the DAOcember event, fostering the emergence of new DAO ideas and collaborations. As part of this support, we’ve proposed allocating 1 ETH to bolster a new DAO dedicated to perpetuating the DAOcember ethos, contributing to its evolution and sustainability.

  • CookieJar Bounty Board: Currently, we’re utilizing 2 ETH to fund a Cookie Jar experiment. This initiative focuses on minimizing governance intervention while supporting and maintaining DAOhaus open-source tools and protocols. The goal is to streamline support mechanisms for essential tools within our ecosystem and use this experiment to allow other ecosystems to do the same.

  • The Network Member Registry: Additionally, we’re actively engaged in The Network Member Registry project, a cross-chain DAO governance minified distribution and member management system. This collaborative effort involves working closely with Protocol Guild, another participant in the Octant Grant program. Notably, we’ve been rewarded a 5 ETH grant from The Moloch DAO to support this project. Currently, we’re in the second contract audit phase and simultaneously undertaking front-end development and refinement.

Future Directions:

  • Collaborations with Octant Grant Recipients: Looking ahead, we’re dedicated to forging alliances with other Octant grant recipients. Our primary objective is to collectively build open tooling for DAOs. In particular, we’ve initiated discussions with the Hypercert teams to explore opportunities for collaboration. We anticipate further funding to strengthen this partnership, aiming to co-create innovative solutions that push the boundaries of DAO functionalities.

Funding

  • Moloch DAO Grant: This grant of 5 ETH was made to the Moloch DAO to support the developers of the Protocol Guild Member Registry.

In essence, the Octant grant has empowered us to reimagine DAO mechanics and accountability paradigms. We’re deeply committed to leveraging this support to foster a more robust, inclusive, and efficient DAO ecosystem.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm as we embark on this transformative journey.

Warm regards,
PublicHaus Team
